KOI remake by Loone-Wolf KOI remake by Loone-Wolf
Here's the old piece: [link]

The new version: [link]

The new-revised version: [link]

The new version with no enviromental effects: [link]

3D model WIP for papercraft template: [link]

Decided to make the new improved version of my "KOI" the first one got a lot of feedback, and my friends keep asking me if i make a papercraft version of it, but i was not confident with the design at that time. So i decided to remake the KOI and give it a new, more compact and solid looking pieces on it's armor and added some more color variations, just like a real KOI, though this one doesn't really resemble one.

I am sorry for my lack of experience in underwater lighting, I've done a few tweaks on the newer pics including less effects and fully unblurred image. I hope you like it better :)

The KOI V2.0 is on it's way to papercraft form as i speak.

Dari desain, yg baru lebih bagus, shape dan detail optimum. Tapi dari gambar, yang dulu terasa lebih berdimensi dan solid.

The second one shows more artistic skill, it definitely shows you have improved on your skills and style. The first one does look a tad better because the details are more visible and the contrast in the colors make it pop-out.

Zoomed out, the old version pops out more however when you open it in fullsize I can definitely see you have improved a lot and know your way around things. One little criticism I would make is that I think you've used a bit too much blurring on the fins

Thank you very much! advice noted, i think it does feel to blurry, maybe i should remake this one even more, soon i'll have the 3D model so i think i'll re-draw the second one and give it moar details. Thank you very much for the critique! :)

Prefer the old one. The colors are just to bright one the new one, to much playing with light effects.
Old one looks more much and its supposed to be a mech..

Okay, advice noted, i'll start redrawing the second one as soon as i can, i apologize for the lack of underwater lighting skill, it's my first time making those kinds of effects. Thank you for the feedback! :)

You just have to keep in mind, mech units are always supposed to look dark and dirty even under water. :)
Unless you want to draw Power Rangers transforming robots. :)

I agree that the old one does look better in this image but i actually took the time to click the links and look at both the new one in this image as well as the link to it without the effects you did in this image image. The real reason i think people are saying they think the 1st one looks better is the very over used and strong blurring you did to the newer painting. You blurred the back fin, the bottom fins, and the tops fins which is too much area too blur in one image in the first place but i think what really makes it looks worse is the strength of the blurring. It almost removes all the detail on one half of the entire Koi. I believe you were trying too add a sense of motion (maybe) to the fish but it just looks blurry is all.

Just too add though the newer painting without the blurring effect used in this image is much better then the older one. I would suggest removing the blurring effect you did in the newer one and see what people think.

Hmm yes, maybe some people like the messy look, i'll plan a re-draw more carefully next time, but my goal on this one is to make a more solid and less messy looking of the first version, i guess i did it then... :)

indeed, man, i love all your work, id think the MKII while less mecha messy, really would be the second generation design, becuase it would work in water more realistically

Hmm, yes that would be my point creating the second one, and the fact that you think that way is a proof that this piece might just reached it's goal. Lol the first one was designed when i know less about mech, it was around 5 years ago, did it in accounting class.

The old one is only "better" because it has more attributes to make it look more robotic. More detail and more depth. The new one looks kind of flatter and like you rushed it .I like the shine on it though. If you meshed your old stly with your new style it would be perfect :)

if you want to learn more about posing and other useful stuff. Tom Bancroft has a really good book on it. He shows how to make a good drawing without all the flashy effects etc. so then when you do add on to it, you have an excellent drawing. Id highly recommend it.
